Web 3.0 and the CEO: When’s it Coming?
Some will tell you that Web 3.0 is already here. Others will say in about 10 years. It has to do with when you think it’s coming. I would offer a few opinions since this is hard to base on facts.
The law of innovation is normally that a need develops, dreams of meeting it are thought of, work is started to make the dream a reality, the product is developed, and it’s marketed and finds its way in to the mainstream. I think a lot of corporations have needs but they are large scale and slightly nebulous. “We want to cut costs, we want to be more effecient, we want to invent the next best thing.” When was the last time you heard a corporation say, “I really wish my computers didn’t have to store anything locally”?
As concrete needs develop, Web 3.0 will evolve and become mainstream but until then, the buzzword will be 2.0. I know what my need is. I want to wake up in the morning knowing that I stayed up late getting work done for my job and not having to be bound to getting in my car at a certain time and being stuck within the walls of my work building. I want the freedom to work until midnight and then enjoy the sunrise the next morning. I think web 3.0 may just be my answer to that. I sure hope so.
